Cutaneous fascioliasis: a case report in Peru and review

Roy García-Cuadros, Servicios de Dermatología, Hospital EsSalud del Cusco, Cusco, Perú

A 45-year-old woman presented with abdominal discomfort, cerebral hemorrhage and a migratory nodule in the epigastrium. A large exeresis biopsy stained with hematoxylin eosin showed an inmmature fluke of Fasciola hepatica in the hypodermis accompanied by eosinophilic panniculitis with foci of hemorrhage. There was moderate eosinophilia in various blood counts. The immunoblot test was positive for Fasciola hepatica. She was treated with oral triclabendazole at a rate of 10 mg/k in 2 doses every 4 days with satisfactory clinical evolution. This case corresponds to a nodular cutaneous ectopic fascioliasis with other extracutaneous manifestations, unusual and useful to be taken into account by the high global prevalence of this parasitosis.
